Dr. Jonathan Ellen

Dr. Jonathan Ellen is a pediatrician, adolescent medicine specialist, and social and behavioral epidemiologist. Over three decades as a physician, hospital executive, researcher, and public health practitioner, he has worked to raise the value of care and reduce health inequities. He currently provides pediatric and adolescent primary care in Montgomery County, Maryland, and writes on health care policy and large-scale health systems administration for publications across America.

From 2012 to 2018, Dr. Ellen served as president and CEO of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he led its transformation from a regional referral center into a leading pediatric academic health system. Before that, he chaired the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He later founded Labrador Health, a company addressing patients’ social and behavioral health needs.

Dr. Ellen was a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health. He earned his M.D. from Temple University and trained at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and UCSF.
