Steve Marshall

Steve Marshall is the 48th Attorney General of Alabama, sworn in on February 10, 2017. Before taking office, he served sixteen years as District Attorney for Marshall County, Ala. As Attorney General, he has made online harms to young people a central focus, suing TikTok in 2025 over its design and its safety claims and reaching a first-in-the-nation settlement with Roblox requiring stronger protections for minors. In August 2026, he announced a $117 million settlement with Meta — Alabama’s share of a $17.1 billion agreement among 47 states and territories requiring sweeping child safety changes on Instagram and Facebook. He serves on the executive committee of the Republican Attorneys General Association, with active roles on national issues including the opioid crisis, human trafficking, and the rule of law. Marshall earned academic honors at both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Alabama School of Law.
